In this episode, Jill Roberts, a family lawyer, shares insights into the wide scope of family law, including divorce, and legal planning such as prenuptial agreements. Family law is far more than paperwork - it's often about managing incrediblly emotionally complex and sensitive situations, with a balance of expertise and compassion.
We've all seen it in a TV show or movie: the scene where the argument between the unhappy couple reaches fever pitch, and one of them yells, "you'll be hearing from my lawyer!" What usually follows next is a either a scene where the couple are in a room together, only talking to each other via their lawyers, or a painful court case (or lines painted down the middle of rooms if it's a comedy).
But as Jill explains in this episode, the involvement of a family lawyer before or during this process can remove a lot of the arguments, because after all, long after the lawyers are gone, former partners are still likely to need to deal with each other in a cordial way.
