  • Casey Jones Eclipse and Casey Jones tobacco!
    Mar 12 2026

    • Interesting things about the distillery:
      • Features a square still
      • Casey was a famous still maker in the land between the lakes area
      • He started making square stills, which made them easier to transport and move in a hurry, something that is helpful if you're being chased down.
      • He went to prison for bootlegging and stopped moonshining and building a still in 1967
      • This distillery was started by his grandson, Arlon Casey Jones (AJ)
    • B3 Beverages
      • B3 is a newer beverage company, and Casey Jones is their first distillery. They partner with
        • Bald Birds Brewing Co. (King of Prussia & Jersey Shore, PA) & Four Birds Distilling (PA)
        • Heavy Seas Beer (Baltimore, MD)
        • Yards Brewing Company (Philadelphia, PA)
        • Two Roads Brewing Company (Stratford, CT)
      • They allow companies to continue operating, and just add financial backing
      • They do talk about co-manufacturing, so I can see them attempting to either start their own brand and use Casey Jones distillery to make it, or partner with other distilleries and share capacity.
        • Casey Jones also has a 3000 barrel rickhouse
    • Our Bottle:
    • Pipe Pairings:
      • Casey Jones pipe tobacco
      • Named after the railroad engineer Casey Jones. He was killed in a railroad accident, and there are a couple of songs about him, one by the Grateful Dead and another made famous by Johnny Cash.
      • The story is that Casey is an accomplished engineer. He was driving a passenger train (engine 382) that was running behind. Time was mostly made up. A freight train had pulled onto a siding, but the air brakes broke and locked it up with the caboose and a couple of cars still on the main line. Sims was the fireman. Casey told him to bail, and he did. If Casey had bailed, it would have hit that train going 75 miles an hour. Since he stayed, he slowed it to 35, and the passengers all lived. The only fatality was him. This was in 1900.
      • Engine 382 was rebuilt, but it crashed 4 more times, the final time running into a passenger train and killing 4 people, including the former president and VP of the railroad it was on.)
      • Ironically, this Casey Jones did not drink

      • By things, we mean tea, fine wines, and spirits.
      • He found his way into the whiskey world by blending the whiskey that he got in
      • Creating something new
      • John passed away in 1857, and his son, Alexander, took over when he was old enough
      • In 1843, with railroads in place, Alexander established a distribution network that shipped his whiskey worldwide.
      • In 1862, sales averaged 100,000 gallons each year.

  • Bruichladdich the Classic Laddie!
    Feb 19 2026

    Send a text

    • Interesting things about the distillery:
      • Head Distiller, Adam Hannett
      • The name Bruichladdich is an anglicisation of Bruthach a' Chladaich, Scottish Gaelic for Brae (hillside) of the Shore.
      • Originally established in 1881, it was closed many times throughout its history, and its current form opened in 2001. It has been owned by Rémy Cointreau since 2012.
      • Barley doesn't grow well on Islay, so most is imported from other regions. But Bruichladdich didn't like that, so they worked with a local farmer and have Islay-grown barley, over half is grown in Islay now
        • To help it grow, they began rotating crops by adding Rye. Rye has not been grown on Islay, so this was brand new. They have a rye now!
    • Our Bottle: Bruichladdich The Classic Laddie
      • "Trickle distilled" refers to a slow distillation process, often involving multiple runs (like triple distillation), where heat is carefully controlled for a gentle drip, resulting in a purer, lighter, smoother spirit by separating heavier compounds (congeners) and capturing lighter, more floral flavors, famously used in Irish whiskey and certain Scotch malts.
      • On average, our Classic Laddie batches are made from 76 different casks, comprising 4 vintages of spirit, 3 barley types, and 7 cask types.
      • Our bottle is 25/050
        • A VATTING OF 81 CASKS, 5 VINTAGES, 6 BARLEY TYPES AND 10 CASK TYPES

  • Cardhu 12 with Prince Albert!
    Feb 12 2026

    Send a text

    • Interesting things about the distillery:
      • take their name from the Gaelic for “Black Rock.”
      • The main Speyside part of Johnnie Walker
      • Helen Cummings and her husband, John, started the distillery in 1824
      • The distillery was sited high up on Mannoch Hill, above the River Spey, due to the peat softening the water.
      • Helen was the distiller. Since the distillery was on the top of the hill, she could see the authorities coming. She would put flour on herself to say she was baking to cover the smell, offered them tea, and put up a flag to warn other distillers in the area.
      • In 1885, they moved the distillery to grow and sold the old distillery to the Grant family; it is now where Glenfiddich began.
      • In 1893, sold to Johnnie Walker and Sons, but continued to be run by the Cummings family.
      • Joined Distillers Company in 1925, which was bought by Guinness in 1986, and became Diageo in 1997.
