• Episode #161: Deeper Coaching Presence
    May 22 2026

We have discussed both presence and absence in the coaching room in previous episodes, and today we want to venture a little deeper around the concept of presence in coaching.

We all know when we have experienced someone who is fully present for us; someone who has listened and allowed us to feel heard and understood.

    Presence makes a difference.

We will all have also experienced times when our coach has been a little distracted or not fully engaged. Coaching presence is such a powerful phenomenon and at the same time, something quite intangible, so we thought we'd try and define it for our listeners.

Join us for this episode as we explore what coaching presence is, why it's important, and some ways in which you can cultivate a more powerful presence in your coaching sessions.

  • Episode #160: Coaching Tools: Questions from Stoic Philosophy
    May 15 2026

What have the Stoics ever done for us?

Well apart from aqueducts, wine, irrigation, sanitation, the roads, medicine, public order and the baths, the Stoics also gave us a few different ways of thinking about events that we have no control over.

The Roman stoics, Seneca and Marcus Aureleus and the Greek stoics, Zeno of Citium and Epictetus, along with a few other philosophers, used their ancient wisdom to unlock what was going on for their contemporaries. That same wisdom may provide novel ways of viewing our own environment and provide us with some alternative perspectives that could benefit us in our modern world.

In this episode we explore three stoic questions that could help our coachees to move forward in their thinking.

Join us as we explore a little stoic philosophy that we might choose to bring into the coaching space.

  • Episode #157: Some Psychological Terms To Help Raise Awareness of Your Coaching
    Apr 24 2026

In this episode we are exploring four different psychological phenomena that might just show up in the coaching room.

They are concepts that originate in the world of psychoanalysis and therapy, and whilst their presence may well have been seen as problematic, they are also commonly occurring phenomena for ordinary people and information for us in the coaching room.

The four concepts that we discuss in this episode are transference, counter-transference, projection, and parallel processing.

Join us for this fascinating dive into some often mentioned, but poorly understood, concepts.

  • Episode #156: Coaching face to face versus online
    Apr 17 2026

Whether you are with your coachee or not when you're coaching them will depend on a number of variables, but there's a good chance these days that you are more likely to be in a virtual coaching room than sitting face to face with your coachee. Some telephone coaching still happens but not so much, these days.

In this episode, we discuss the pros and cons of both ways of working, and some things to consider as a coach. Whether you prefer to be in the room where it happens or you embrace the efficiency of being coaching online this conversation provides you with the opportunity to reflect on the different ways of working as a coach.

  • Episode #155: Belbin Team Roles
    Apr 10 2026

If you're talking to coachees about their role, their career or their work colleagues, you may find that they have quite narrow ways of viewing what works and what doesn't work in their team.

They may view the way they go about things as the right way and can't understand why other team members don't just behave in the way that they do. They may express concern, or frustration, at their team members' varying attitudes towards the work that needs to be done.

In this episode we explore why it's important to have some diversity of thought and behaviour within an effective team. Tom shares his knowledge of Belbin Team Roles, a concept and a tool that helps individuals and teams better understand how they might work more effectively together.

The conversation highlights the need for complementary skillsets and different ways of individual team-members operating in order to develop a team that is both cohesive and performing well.

  • Episode #154: Topics for Coaching Goalsetting and Planning
    Apr 3 2026

As transformational coaches we very much focus on self-exploration and self-acceptance for the coachee; challenging their current thinking and helping them explore new perspectives; supporting them in finding new ways to go about doing things and encouraging them to become more who they really are.

That said, sometimes coachees may want to work towards a specific tangible goal, develop a realistic strategy or map out a practical plan, and, of course, we will look to coach them in planning and actioning their project and achieving their goal, whilst also inviting them to step back for a while and consider what the goal or plan means to them, and their future self.

In this episode we explore where we might start working with a coachee's goals and share some tips on how you might support a coachee who is presenting with this kind of coaching scenario.
