La Epopeya de Gilgamesh (2500-2000 a. C) es una narración acadia en verso sobre las peripecias del rey Gilgamesh. Está basada en cinco poemas independientes sumerios, que constituyen la obra épica más antigua conocida. Al comienzo, Gilgamesh es el despótico rey de Uruk, cuyos súbditos se quejan a los dioses.
