Krieg und Frieden ist ein historischer Roman des russischen Schriftstellers Leo Tolstoy. Er gilt als eines der bedeutendsten Werke der Weltliteratur und wurde mehrfach verfilmt. In seiner Mischung aus historischem Roman und militär-politischen Darstellungen sowie Analysen der zaristischen Feudalgesellschaft während der napoleonischen Ära Anfang des 19. Jahrhunderts in Russland und den Kriegen zwischen 1805 und 1812 mit der Invasion Russlands 1812 nimmt es die Montagetechnik moderner Romane des 20. Jahrhunderts vorweg.

Raskolnikow sorgt sich zunehmend um die bevorstehende Hochzeit seiner Schwester. Er unterstreicht in Anwesenheit der Mutter, dass Dunja die Verlobung mit Luschin auflösen muss. Weitere Gewissensbisse aufgrund der Morde werden spürbar, weshalb er Mutter und Schwester fortschickt, um allein zu sein. Rasumichin soll die beiden in ihr Hotel bringen. Dunja scheint ihm zu gefallen. Anschließend begleitet er den Arzt erneut zu Raskolnikow, um nach diesem zu sehen.

Luschin macht es noch immer zu schaffen, dass Dunja ihm eine Abfuhr erteilt hat. Er streitet sich mit seinem früheren Mündel Lebestjanikow, bei welchem er nun wohnt. Thema des Streits ist primär Sonja, die Lebestjanikow in eine Kommune locken möchte, um diese dort zu entwickeln. Luschin holt Sonja hinzu, weil er vorgeblich etwas Gutes für die Witwe Marmeladow tun möchte. Luschin überreicht Sonja zehn Rubel und möchte sich am Abend mit ihr treffen.

Kholstomer is a work by Leo Tolstoy that has been referred to as "one of the most striking stories in Russian literature". It was started in 1863 and left unfinished until 1886, when it was reworked and published as Kholstomer: The Story of a Horse. This story prominently features the technique of defamiliarization by adopting the perspective of a horse to expose some of the irrationalities of human conventions. Kholstomer's altruistic life is recounted parallel to that of his selfish and useless owner. At the end of the story horse dies but his corpse gives birth to a new life - that of wolf cubs.

In "A Nervous Breakdown", Vasilyev feeling distressed after his visit to few brothels for the first time. Guilt, disgust and shame and of that little voices debating inside his mind that lead him to a symptom of a nervous breakdown. A quirky storytelling, quite distressing but entertaining.

The Nose is a satirical short story by Nikolai Gogol written during his time living in St. Petersburg. During this time, Gogol's works were primarily focused on surrealism and the grotesque, with a romantic twist. Written between 1835 and 1836, The Nose tells the story of a St. Petersburg official whose nose leaves his face and develops a life of its own. The Nose was originally published in The Contemporary, a literary journal owned by Alexander Pushkin.
