È un evento rivoluzionario, vissuto in questi termini dai contemporanei, in Italia e fuori d'Italia. In questo libro l'autore analizza il lungo processo di formazione del movimento nazionale, dai primi slanci patriottici di fine Settecento alle organizzazioni insurrezionali, ai tentativi rivoluzionari della prima metà dell'Ottocento fino all'anno cruciale del regno.
