Our future. Noncitizens and individuals of low social standing can only find work in one place: the virtual world of Disgardium. Unity is strength, but the path of a hero is often traveled alone, especially when friends, comrades and allies have been lost. The weight of responsibility is overwhelming, and there is so much at stake that one might feel compelled to howl at the moon Geala. Unfortunately, this moon is nowhere to be found in the Nether, Inferno or Purgatory, nor can it be seen through the leaden acid clouds of Terrastera or beneath the twisted dome of the continent of Meaz.

A lazy and wussy ex-gamer, Phil becomes one of the few humans who receive a mysterious alien piece of wetware that allows them to see the world through an augmented-reality interface very similar to those used in an MMORPG game. Guided by its stats and messages, Phil begins to level up, gradually transforming himself and his life. He even opens his own business in order to help his friends and complete strangers who acquire a newfound respect for him, assisting him in his travails.

The armies of the Commonwealth, the Empire, and the neutral factions, all the leading players and clans of the preventers, have been summoned under the banners of Nergal the Radiant to the sands of the deadly Lakharian Desert, to wage war against a most terrible enemy of all life itself - Scyth. His supporters include not only mindless wild races, but also nightmarish monsters: the zombie guitarist Infect, the death mage Crawler, and one undead warrior by the name of Bomber.

Mike Hagen, an American nicknamed "Crybaby", became one of those chosen to be given an augmented reality interface. However, his favorite game was an MMA fighter - possibly, for the reason that he'd never fought in real life, and the interface adapted itself to him.

The body of young, paralyzed Luca, a boy killed by cruel bullies, becomes home to an interdimensional traveler. This is the 99th world for this traveler who has spent an entire life in each of his previous worlds. And now, he is out of lives, his previous misdeeds leaving him with a negative balance of points and preventing him from reincarnating anew. Alex Sheppard flies to the Demonic Games, hoping that he and his friends Malik and Tissa can do the impossible and achieve victory. Almost 400 players are invited to the Games, the best of the best from all walks of Dis. Champions of the arena and the battlefields, gryphon races and pet battles; the very best craftspeople and grand masters of their professions.... All of them await the arrival of Scyth the Class-A Threat, who must now prove his worth without his divine abilities to help him. 

Under the protection of Nergal the Radiant, the Alliance's armies march confidently toward Tiamat's temple. Scyth's old tricks are no longer working. The Legate of the Destroying Plague and his friends have a difficult choice to make: bow to the wishes of the Snowstorm corporation and complete the quest of the Nucleus, surrender to the preventers, or retreat in the battle for Tiamat's temple to win the war?

Scyth and the followers of the Sleeping Gods have lost the Holy War. The new gods, who call themselves the True Gods, celebrate, unaware that the Sleepers have one more temple left. But how long until they find out? After all, Scyth's enemy Mogwai, once the strongest player on the planet, knows about Kharinza. The Supreme Legate of the Destroying Plague thirsts for vengeance and is eager to regain his former positions, becoming stronger every day, while Scyth, deprived of his invulnerability, has lost his former advantages.
