Dans ce texte, écrit en 1910, Sigmund Freud (1856-1939) s'attache à étudier le processus de la création artistique chez Léonard de Vinci. Il part d'un des premiers souvenirs d'enfance rapporté par le peintre. Pour Freud, il s'agit plutôt d'un fantasme, qu'il appellera "le fantasme au vautour", que Léonard "s'est construit plus tard et qu'il a alors rejeté dans son enfance" et qui se rapproche de certains "fantasmes de femmes ou d'homosexuels passifs".

1916-1917 hielt Sigmund Freud drei Vorlesungen zur Einführung in die Psychoanalyse. Von der Darstellung der Fehlleistungen (Erster Teil) über die zentrale Bedeutung des Traums in der Psychoanalyse (Zweiter Teil) bis hin zur systematischen Vorstellung der allgemeinen Neurosenlehre (dritter Teil) bietet Sigmund Freud mit seinen Vorlesungen eine hervorragende und gut verständliche Einführung in sein bahnbrechendes Werk und in sein Denken. 1933 folgten schließlich weitere Vorlesungen, unter anderem über das Triebleben und über die Zerlegung der psychischen Persönlichkeit.
