Will Cannon leaves his Mora River Ranch and rides alone to the small southeastern New Mexico town of Sandoval in search of the Blackman Gang. The Blackman Gang killed Will's family in Virginia several years ago and Will swore an oath to kill Blackman and every member of his gang.

Will Cannon's brother, Joe Cannon, and some of the cowboys from the Mora River Ranch have taken a string of horses to Silver City to have a horse auction there. When Joe and his men don't return on time, Will Cannon rides the trail alone to the silver mining camps around Silver City.
