Sous le règne du Roi Louis 14, appelé aussi le Roi Soleil, régnait bien souvent dans les campagnes une grande misère. Beaucoup de familles paysannes n’avaient presque plus rien à manger, et les enfants étaient alors les premiers sacrifiés. Cela nous paraît incroyable aujourd’hui, mais dans ces terribles moments de famine, certains désespérés en arrivaient jusque-là. C’est dans ce triste contexte que naissait, issu de la tradition orale comme beaucoup d’autres contes, l’histoire du petit Poucet.

Ce célèbre conte dont l'origine remonte à l'antiquité égyptienne a traversé les âges et les continents pour s'adapter à toutes les cultures. On ne dénombre pas moins de 500 adaptations artistiques de cette histoire. Charles Perrault a écrit la version la plus connue en 1697, c'est cette version emplie de poésie que vous allez découvrir ou redécouvrir ; Cendrillon vit avec son père, sa belle-mère très méchante et ses deux filles, toutes trois très méchantes avec Cendrillon qu’elles chargent de toutes les tâches de la maison.

Il était une fois une petite fille surnommée le petit chaperon rouge, qui allait très gentiment porter quelques friandises à sa grand-mère malade. Mais en traversant le bois, elle fit la rencontre du loup. Comme il lui parut très sympathique, elle lui indiqua sans se méfier le chemin qu’elle allait prendre… Ce conte de tradition orale connut plus de trente versions différentes. Celle que nous proposons ici est issue des « Histoires ou Contes du temps passé » écrites par Charles Perrault en 1697.
