Beim Rinderhüten trifft Lucky Luke seinen Freund, den Pechvogel Jack Loser. Er bittet Luke, die Neuankömmlinge in St. Louis abzuholen und sie nach Chelm City in Montana zu bringen. Dabei wird er mit den Sitten und Gebräuchen der gläubigen Juden konfrontiert, die zum Beispiel sein Abendessen – frischer Hasenbraten – verschmähen, weil es nicht koscher ist.
