When Kristy sees how much her little brothers and sisters want to play on a softball team, she organizes a ragtag team of her own. They may not be champions, with Jackie Rodowsky, walking disaster, on the team, but at least they have team spirit! Now Bart's Bashers have challenged Kristy's Krushers to a game. The Bashers really are lean and mean...but the worst part of it all is that Kristy has a giant crush on the Bashers' coach.

Mallory Pike has always wanted to be a member of the Baby-Sitters Club - they're so much fun to be around, and she's practically a baby-sitter already. Now the club members have invited Mallory to a meeting. This might be her big chance! But the BSC isn't making it easy - they make Mal feel like a baby on a job, and make her take an impossible written test. Mallory's beginning to think she doesn't want to be a part of the BSC...or maybe she and her new friend Jessi should start a club of their own. It's time to show those baby-sitters what a couple of new girls can do!

Stacey quits the club, but suddenly realizes that her new "friends" are using her as a cover for their drinking, shoplifting, and other ideas of summer fun.

Claudia has always been the most outrageous girl in her class...until Ashley Wyeth comes along. Ashley's really different - she dresses in hippie clothes, wears six earrings and work boots, and is the most fantastic artist Claudia has ever met. Ashley says Claudia has artistic talent, too, but thinks Claudia should spend more time on her "calling" and stop wasting time on the Baby-Sitters Club. The baby-sitters are sick of Ashley Wyeth, and they feel like Claudia is a traitor. Claudia has to decide: either the BSC or the new girl - one of them's got to go!

To a New York City girl like Stacey, the fact that an old - supposedly haunted - house in Stoneybrook is being torn down is no big deal. But then her friend Kristy discovers the house was built on a graveyard, and when Stacey sees a horrible face in one of the windows, she wonders if the house really could be haunted!

Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle has gone away unexpectedly and left her niece, Missy Piggle-Wiggle, in charge of the Upside-Down House and the beloved animals who live there: Lester the pig, Wag the dog, and Penelope the parrot, among others. Families in town soon realize that like her great-aunt, Missy Piggle-Wiggle has inventive cures for all sorts of childhood (mis)behavior: The Whatever Cure and the Just-a-Minute Cure, for instance. What is a stressed out parent to do? Why, call Missy Piggle-Wiggle, of course!

Visiting her father on the west coast, Dawn is tempted to stay with him when she enjoys the beach, Disneyland, and a wealth of healthy restaurants, but the homesick baby-sitter fears leaving her mother and all of her friends.

The baby-sitters just love little babies. So of course Kristy has the great idea of entering a float in the Stoneybrook Baby Parade. All the girls have to do is round up a bunch of adorable babies like Squirt and Emily Michelle, dress them in costumes, and plop them on a float. Easy, right? Wrong. The float looks like a big orange blob, the costumes are hideous, and the babies won't stop crying. S.O.S. - the baby-sitters' float is about to sink!

Mother's Day is coming up and the baby-sitters have the same problem they do every year: What do they get their mothers? Kristy, especially, wants to do something nice for her mom. Mrs. Brewer has been acting kind of strange and secretive lately, and Kristy's worried about her.... But then Kristy gets another one of her great ideas. Why don't the baby-sitters treat their moms - and the mothers of the kids they sit for - to a day off without any kids around? The BSC plans a gigantic baby-sitting party.

Taking on task after task in her willingness to please the well-paying Cheplin family, baby-sitter Stacey experiences an elated sense of achievement, until her jobs interfere with the rest of her schedule.

When Mary Anne is woken up in the middle of the night by her cat, Tigger, she immediately knows something's wrong. Then she smells the smoke...and hears her father yelling her name. Rose Howard has OCD, Asperger's syndrome, and an obsession with homonyms (even her name is a homonym). She gave her dog Rain a name with two homonyms (Reign, Rein), which, according to Rose's rules of homonyms, is very special. Rain was a lost dog Rose's father brought home. Rose and Rain are practically inseparable. And they are often home alone, as Rose's father spends most evenings at a bar, and doesn't have much patience for his special-needs daughter.

Haley Braddock has never given the BSC much of a hassle before. But now she's out of control! After Claudia catches Haley in a lie - and Haley gets grounded for it - this formerly quiet BSC charge turns against Claudia in a big way.

Karen plays on the Krushers softball team. One day when the Krushers are in a game, Karen hits a home run! So she starts calling herself Home Run Karen. But that jinxes Karen, and she can't hit at all. She even strikes out. How can Karen march with the Krushers in the big parade when she's nothing but a strikeout queen?

Learning that her friend and English partner Amelia Freeman has died in a tragic accident during spring break, a devastated Mary Anne is unable to overcome her sorrow and decides to do something special to remember her friend.

At long last, Dawn's mother and Mary Anne's father have decided to get married!

For once, Claudia's studied really hard for her math test. And when she gets her paper back, it has an A- on it. All right! But then Claudia's math teacher calls her to his desk and accuses her of copying off of Shawna Riverson's test. Claudia can't believe it, and neither can the baby-sitters. Claudia would never cheat! And they're not going to rest until they help clear Claudia's name!
