Comme il l'a dit à Alexandre Dumas, Nerval était doué de la faculté de s'identifier à des personnages réels ou légendaires.

Charles Baudelaire was een Franse dichter. "Dante gedaald van een tijdstip" naar het woord van Barbey d'Aurevilly, "zich tot klassieke, romantiek gevoed" op het kruispunt van Parnassus en symboliek kampioen "moderne", neemt een belangrijke plaats onder de Franse dichters voor een weliswaar korte collectie onder het werk van zijn tijdgenoot Victor Hugo, maar het heeft de vorm van zijn leven: de Bloemen van het kwaad.

Included are reflections not only on poetry, but also on painting and music, displaying Baudelaire’s finely honed critical instincts.

French literary figure Charles Baudelaire was a member of the infamous Club of the Hashish-Eaters, a Parisian literary group dedicated to the exploration of altered states of consciousness, principally through the use of hashish. The Poem of Hashish was first published in 1850. This is Aleister Crowley’s translation of it, from 1895. Baudelaire was part of the French art movement known as saymbolism, which acted as a reaction to realism and placed a lot of emphasis on the power of dreams and the imagination as tools for communicating ideals through symbols.

I then talk about the life of the author, give a full analysis of the poem and finally re-read the poem at a faster speed with a more personal interpretation. Baudelaire's style had a tremendous influence on French poetry, and also on English writers; he was a pioneering translator, and created strong ties with the Anglo-Saxon literature.
