This is part of the series on health topics. I have actually included this as a chapter in my book Diet and Health. This is an interesting example of a therapeutic fast in which a person lost 276 pounds in 382 days. A clinical case study was reported in a journal on this subject as clinical data was gathered throughout the fast. This fast provides much insight into long therapeutic fasts. Let me remind you, you do not fast unless you have fat stores.

AGEs are abnormal proteins that accumulate in your body to cause damage, and is the principle element in aging. Of course, autophagy is what prevents this. I am going to review the last 6000 years regarding fasting to try to explain why we now not only have an obesity epidemic, but also why our lifespan is the same now as it was 3500 years ago, despite our miraculous advances in medicine and public health.

It is now common knowledge that we know there is an obesity epidemic. We have about 40% of the adults in the world who are eating the modern Western diet diagnosed with obesity.
