The first edition of Curators and Collections, published in 1997, was based on interviews and features published in the quarterly review, Cv Journal of Art and Crafts (1988-1991). These recorded the launch of the Irish Museum of Modern Art in 1991, the construction of Tate Modern in 1997, as well as exploring special collections at the National Gallery, Courtauld Gallery, The British Museum, and Royal Photographic Society.

The project of surveying Gloucestershire at first seemed to be almost too big to handle, indeed it involved multiple journeys crisscrossing the county. But I think the result reveals the great range of individual character in its many towns and villages: compare traditional Cotswold centers such as Great Barrington and Upper Slaughter in the north east with the intensely industrialized districts of Yate and Filton above Bristol, or the freshness of the Vale of Berkeley bordering the Severn Estuary.

The Magnetic Diaries is simultaneously a narrative in poems, a critical appreciation, and a book of literary hide and seek. Taking the characters and storyline of Gustave Flaubert's 19th-century masterpiece Madame Bovary, Sarah James re-envisages them in a modern 21st-century English setting. The contemporary heroine, Emma Bailey, battles with similar romantic idealism, illusions about love, a stifling middle-class lifestyle, boredom, and depression.

Cv Publications' series of relocation guides to English counties was launched with my survey of Oxfordshire. It was a journey of discovery. Rather than just passing from point A to B, my excursions followed an ad hoc schedule of diverse routes.
