It seems that my former power is gradually returning to me in my new body. I still have all my past experience, however, and everything is proceeding just as it should. How quickly can I earn money and build my reputation? No, I'm not going to resort to killing and looting. I'm an Architect, after all! I'm going to craft and build things! That's how Architects work! The time has come to rebuild my empire. So . . . I might end up having to do some killing and looting, after all. I'm not short of enemies . . .

The hardest part is behind me, it seems. I'm no longer a kindergartner. I've got money, allies, and, most importantly, a reputation. Yet, the further you rise, the more challenges the Universe throws your way, and the more powerful your foes become as they emerge over the horizon. That just makes life more interesting, however. I've got a plan. And I'm going to follow it to the letter....

Normally, after changing bodies, I'd have recovered my former power by now and be back to my eternal struggle in the Multidimensional Universe. This time, however, all I have apart from Sirius is a handful of jury-rigged drones. I also have coffee, shawarma, four pet punks, and two sisters...

Hallo! Mein Name ist Max, und ich bin einer der Auserwählten. Was ist der erste Gedanke, der Ihnen in den Sinn kommt, wenn Sie diese Worte lesen? Ein großer Held, auserkoren unter all den Milliarden Menschen auf der Erde? Jemand, der das Glück hat, in einer unbekannten Welt zu landen und dort Superkräfte zu gewinnen? Ein Entdecker neuer Welten, der sein Schicksal gefunden hat? Nun ja, all das stimmt tatsächlich, nur gibt es ein kleines Aber … Oder, um genau zu sein, eine ganze Reihe von Abers. Und dann sind da dir Regeln. Und die erste Regel der Auserwählten lautet:

Ich war ein Jäger und habe den Kodex geehrt. Für meine Verdienste um die Menschheit und dafür, ein „angemessenes Leben“ zu führen, wurde ich belohnt. Mit einem Leben nach dem Tod und einer neuen Welt, in der ich wohlverdienten Frieden finden sollte. Doch irgendetwas lief schief und erneut finde ich mich dem Kampf ausgesetzt. Die Ungeheuer, die mich hier erwarten, sind weitaus furchteinflößender als jene aus meinem vergangenen Leben. Sie sind klüger, grausamer und unberechenbarer.

I hope that by now you've lost any illusions you had about the Selected being some kind of elite force of intelligent civilization, chosen to fight against Universal Evil. So far, the only evil I've seen is the buggy System and the lack of basic sanitary facilities while we're adventuring. Also, it would be a real stretch to describe my companions as "elite". As for all the problems that come with being Selected—well, we can handle them!

I've finally gotten the message that this is no kind of vacation. Hell, I've had to spin around like a squirrel in a wheel! And the squirrels haven't even reached us yet . . . But I have enough headaches even without those furry little racist bastards. Everywhere I turn, everyone wants to pick on the 'lowly baron.' Well, best of luck to 'em . . . Ha-ha!
