It is 1861 and Thomas Grover has resigned from the US Navy to go with his native state of South Carolina which has left the Union. For two years his career in the new Confederate Navy is tedious and unrewarding. He is posted to Britain as a naval attaché, again denied his wish for active service, until he is transferred to Liverpool where he is offered command of a new warship.

Thinking About Thinking is a based on a series of lectures delivered at Harvard University in 1996 by Professors Alan Dershowitz (lawyer), Robert Nozick (philosopher) and Stephen Jay Gould (paleontologist) about perennial issues such as truth, free will, race, gender, and religion.

What should a deeply religious man do when he is shown an artefact that its current custodian believes contains the cryptic clues to the whereabouts of an ancient document, that when found, would destroy everything he has always believed? When events conspire to send Dr Thomas Bass’s life spiralling out of control–at a time when his mind is tormented by the consequences of how he has lived that life–the search for the ‘truth’ contained on an ancient piece of parchment takes him on a frenzied, turbulent journey of self-discovery.

This series of stories address everyday issues sympathetically and with excellent character development whilst depicting people which many listeners will identify with as the storylines are creatively and skillfully intertwined. This eclectic collection of stories expresses all of the human emotions of the characters with great sensitivity and with pathos.
