Robert Louis Stevenson, Scottish essayist, poet, and author of fiction and travel books, was born in 1850 in Edinburgh, Scotland, as an only son of a prosperous civil engineer. He entered the University of Edinburgh at the age of 17 and studied to be an engineer to follow his father in the family business; however, he soon realized that he was not cut out for that profession. His father agreed to let him study law instead and although Stevenson graduated from the law school, he never practiced law because, by then, he knew he wanted to be a writer.

A Child's Garden of Verses is a book of poetry for children. Stevenson dedicated the poems to his nurse, Cummy (Alison Cunningham), who cared for him during his many childhood illnesses. The collection includes some of Stevenson's most famous poems, including “The Land of Counterpane”, “My Shadow", and “The Lamplighter”.

The classic horror story of dual personalities gone too far, this full-cast narration explores the attempts of Utterson, a London lawyer, to investigate the strange occurrences surrounding his friend, Dr. Henry Jekyll, and the shocking discoveries he makes along the way. It tells the story of mild-mannered lawyer G.J. Utterson who becomes alarmed by the odd behavior of his friend and client Dr. Henry Jekyll. After apparently befriending the mysterious and ill-tempered Edward Hyde, Dr. Jekyll's behavior becomes erratic and after a local murder is attributed to Hyde, the lawyer is forced to conclude that his friend has been caught up in a sinister extortion scheme. This thrilling story has become so intertwined with our cultural narrative that "Jekyll and Hyde" has become shorthand for those people with seemingly split personalities.

Many of Stevenson's greatest poems were included in that volume. Award-winning narrator Mike Vendetti recites six of these favorites including "Looking-Glass River", "My Shadow", and "Sing Me a Song of a Lad that is Gone".
