Dante's Paradise is the third of the three cantos of the Divine Comedy, after Hell and Purgatory. Hell and purgatory are places on Earth, but paradise is a non-material and ethereal place, divided into nine heavens.

It is often said that two things are unavoidable: death and taxes. Certainly the latter is a common thorn in adult life, but as to the former it seems that for many people it is merely a hiccup in life’s journey. A journey they wish, if being of good deed and character, to share at the eternity of heaven’s largesse, a reward for faith and the obligations of religion. Of course for those not so fortunate an altogether different experience was prepared for them: hell. Its nightmare visions are so terrifying, conjured up by Dante, Milton, Blake, Baudelaire and many others.

The most famous of the three canticles that compose The Divine Comedy, "Inferno" describes Dante's descent into Hell midway through his life, with Virgil as a guide. As he descends through nine concentric circles of increasingly agonizing torture, Dante encounters doomed souls that include the pagan Aeneas, the liar Odysseus, the suicidal Cleopatra, and his own political enemies, damned for their deceit.

The Divine Comedy (Italian: Divina Commedia) is an Italian narrative poem by Dante Alighieri, begun c. 1308 and completed in 1320, a year before his death in 1321. It is widely considered the pre-eminent work in Italian literature and one of the greatest works of world literature. The poem's imaginative vision of the afterlife is representative of the medieval worldview as it had developed in the Western Church by the 14th century. It helped establish the Tuscan language, in which it is written, as the standardized Italian language. It is divided into three parts.

The Paradiso is a culminating aspect of a journey from Inferno to Paradiso, and it is also Dante’s vision of the variety, the paradoxes, and the wonder that human beings have any existence at all. En este poema alegórico Dante Alighieri muestra un proceso de perfección para alcanzar la felicidad humana y divina. La obra consta de tres partes: Infierno, Purgatorio y Paraíso. Para llegar a éste último es preciso seguir un camino que obliga a pasar por un rechazo del pecado (infierno) y purificación del arrepentimiento (purgatorio) que permitan llegar a la felicidad humana y religiosa (paraíso).

In seiner berühmten Dichtung durchschreitet Dante das Jenseits: von der Hölle über das Fegefeuer bis hin zum Paradies. An der Seite des römischen Dichters Vergil und seiner Jugendliebe Beatrice begegnet er auf seiner Reise Sündern und Gerechten, spricht mit den Seelen berühmter Verstorbener und ist am Ende dem Sinn des Lebens ganz nah. Dante Alighieri, geboren 1265 in Florenz, schuf mit seiner "Göttlichen Komödie" nicht nur die erste herausragende Dichtung in italienischer Sprache, sondern zugleich eines der bedeutendsten Werke der abendländischen Literatur.

Purgatory is the second part of Dante's Divine Comedy, following the Inferno, and preceding the Paradiso. The poem was written in the early 14th century. It is an allegory telling of the climb of Dante up the Mount of Purgatory, guided by the Roman poet Virgil, except for the last four cantos at which point Beatrice takes over as Dante's guide.

È diviso in tre parti chiamate cantiche: Inferno, Purgatorio, Paradiso; il poeta immagina di compiervi un viaggio ultraterreno.

Non si conoscono con precisione gli anni di composizione della "Vita nuova", nonostante sia stata presumibilmente allestita tra il 1292 e il 1293. Lo stesso Dante, però, ci testimonia che il testo più antico risale al 1283, quando egli aveva diciotto anni, e che il più tardo risale al giugno del 1291, anniversario della morte di Beatrice. Altri sonetti sono probabilmente assegnabili al 1293 (in ogni caso le poesie non possono essere datate oltre il 1295).
