Story0
At midnight on January 24, 1954, the last step was taken in the armistice to end the war in Korea. That night, the neutral Indian guards who had overseen the prisoner of war repatriation process abandoned their posts, leaving their charges to make their own decisions. The vast majority of men allowed to choose a new nation were Chinese and North Koreans who elected the path of freedom. There were smaller groups hoping that the communist bloc would give them a better life.

At age 19, John Colucci was found not guilty of murder by reason of insanity and committed to a mental institution. Eight years later, he's released to begin a new life. Someone wants to make sure he never gets the chance to live it. John's list of enemies is vast. Even his own brother-in-law is determined to see him re-institutionalized. As John struggles to navigate his independence, he finds reasons to live. It isn't long, however, before the nightmare begins again, shattering the peace and forcing John to fight for his life and what's left of his sanity.

The consequences of twenty-first-century sea level rise on the United States and its nearly 90,000 miles of shoreline will be immense: Miami and New Orleans will disappear; many nuclear and other power plants, hundreds of wastewater plants and toxic waste sites, and oil production facilities will be at risk; port infrastructures will need to be raised; and over ten million Americans fleeing rising seas will become climate refugees.

Story0
Terror is back, and its name is Nathan. With no time to lick his wounds, Frank’s evil brother will never stop until he reigns as the sole surviving inheritor of the Sedrick family fortune. The long-awaited sequel to Redmon’s debut thriller, Cut From the Fold, has surfaced. Cut From Thin Air wastes no time revealing how vengeance and blood flow from the edge of Nathan’s knife. Coast Guard Ensign Tom, who realized almost too late that Frank Sedrick was the good guy, had little time to bask in what all thought was the demise of Nathan on an uninhabited coral atoll.

Contemporary fiction has never been less contemporary. Midcentury writers tended to set their works in their own moment, but for the last several decades critical acclaim and attention have fixated on historical fiction. This shift is particularly dramatic for writers of color.
