Friends, I want to talk to you about some of the secret powers hidden within each one of us, powers that are transcendent of our ordinary faculties. We are so used to thinking that we are made up of flesh and blood and bone and hair that we lose sight of the more subtle powers of the mind. Yet, throughout the ages there have been people who have had transcendent powers that go beyond the bounds of physical laws, as we understand them.

Today I want us to build a ladder of personal achievement, with 10 steps in it, steps that I believe will help us to live happily and successfully and in so doing, help us to help others in the glorious game of living.

There is, in the universe, a spirit that is self-knowing, and a law that is not self-knowing, but self-propelling, which obeys spirit. We are self-knowing centers in a law that has no volition other than to obey our impulses. We are ignorant of this and consequently bring upon ourselves, through a direct act of law, all the experiences that we suffer. Should we completely change our mode of thinking, we would completely change our environment.

I want to tell you about a 10-year-old boy who was brought to me because of a continual trouble with his throat. His eyes, too, were somewhat affected. He was getting good medical attention, but in spite of this his throat trouble persisted and without any apparent physical reason. It was thought that perhaps his problem was an emotional one.

After many years of patient work, Dr. Albert Einstein feels that he has found one law governing all physical phenomena. If so, it is one of the greatest and most important discoveries of all time. But what has this to do with our subject - with this thing called life, or with the possibility of using a power of good greater than you are? Well, let's see what we can figure it out.

Friends, we are all in search of something that will make life worthwhile. And this something that we are in search after is God, the living Spirit, God the eternal presence. Not a God that is far away from us, but a God who is ever closer to us than our very breath. The discovery of God in yourself is the greatest discovery you can ever make. And so, today, I am calling this talk, "God Is Your Adventure".

You will remember the story of Aladdin and his lamp; that when he rubbed his lamp and made a wish, then the genie would appear. Jesus said, "There is a light that lighteth every man's path". But he added, "If you put your light under a bushel, then no one can see it". It is this light which is the light of God and the light of life that is your light.

Today we are going to talk about your future. Life has set the stamp of individuality on your soul. You are different from any other person who ever lived. You are an individualized center in the consciousness of God. You are a personal activity in the action of God. You are you, and you are eternal, and you are free.

The miracles of Jesus were valid. He was neither a trickster nor a slight-of-hand artist. Jesus meant exactly what he said and said exactly what he meant. He deliberately followed his teaching by providing physical evidence that he had access to a spiritual power which he used as consciously as you and I use any other laws of nature.

Did you know that you are a wonderful person in your own right, that life has set a unique stamp of individuality on you, and that no one else can ever take your place in the scheme of things? No two persons have identical thumb prints, no two blades of grass are alike, no two leaves of trees, no two snowflakes are ever identical.

When Jesus said, "It is done unto you as you believe", he not only announced a law of faith, he explained how it works. If there is a law of faith, it is right where you are, and it will operate like any other law in nature.

Some time ago I read a short article called "The Scent of Fear" in which it was claimed that fear exudes a scent that an animal can smell. The author claimed that this scent of fear arouses an antagonism within the animal and he often attacks in self-defense.

Friends, you and I are interested in learning how to use our minds and in the most effective way. We want to know how to think in such a manner that our lives will be happy and successful. And learning how to think rightly is like learning how to use any other set of tools.
