"It is with some hesitation that we bring ourselves to write this little book, entitled The Secret of Success. Not that we are not in sympathy with the subject - not that we do not believe that there is a 'Secret of Success' - but because there has been so much written on the subject of 'Success' that is the veriest twaddle - masses of platitudinous wordiness - that we hesitate to take the position of a teacher of Success...."

There is an ever-present principle of perfection which, when co-operated with, brings our own personal life into a state of order. There is, beneath the surface of things, an inner harmony into which we can enter, and with which we can become at one. This is the inner secret of all true religions - to show people how to find this interior order and harmony, and to become adjusted to them and at one with them. So, why a reprint of a book over 135 years old when there are so many reprints and new editions of the text? Excellent question and one I will endeavor to answer here. Since it is our goal to find and reprint spiritual classics on the verge of falling into the vast abyss, we came upon reference to this work while reading Lifting the Veil by Lillian Dewaters and The Sickle by William W. Walter.

The genius of the present age in matters spiritual is towards simplicity, and the hunger of the human heart is for Truth naked and uninvolved. That hunger will eventually bring about (is already bringing about) its own satisfaction, and here and there are men and women who, passing through the Gateway of Self-conquest, are entering into possession of the Transcendent Righteousness.

From the Foreword: Along the highways of Burma there is placed, at regular distances away from the dust of the road, and under the cool shade of a group of trees, a small wooden building called a “rest-house”, where the weary traveller may rest a while, and allay his thirst and assuage his hunger and fatigue by partaking of the food and water which the kindly inhabitants place there as a religious duty.

The first three parts of this book, Passion, Aspiration, and Temptation, represent the common human life, with its passion, pathos, and tragedy. The last three parts, Transcendence, Beatitude, and Peace, represents the Divine Life calm, wise and beautiful of the sage and Savior.

This book, as well as the predecessor, The Sickle, have more or less been artificially suppressed for nearly 100 years. The journey is well worth the effort and the time is right with the expanding of human consciousness worldwide to reintroduce these volumes into the collective consciousness.
