Ecclesiastes is one of the Ketuvim ("Writings") of the Hebrew Bible and one of the "Wisdom" books of the Christian Old Testament. The title commonly used in English is a Latin transliteration of the Greek translation of the Hebrew word קֹהֶלֶת (Kohelet, Koheleth, Qoheleth or Qohelet). An unnamed author introduces "The words of Kohelet, son of David, king in Jerusalem" (1:1) and does not use his own voice again until the final verses (12:9-14), where he gives his own thoughts and summarises the statements of Kohelet; the main body of the text is ascribed to Kohelet himself.

The Book of Daniel is a 2nd-century BC biblical apocalypse with a 6th century BC setting. Ostensibly "an account of the activities and visions of Daniel, a noble Jew exiled at Babylon", it combines a prophecy of history with an eschatology (a portrayal of end times) both cosmic in scope and political in focus, and its message is that just as the God of Israel saves Daniel from his enemies, so he would save all Israel in their present oppression.

Amos was one of the Twelve Minor Prophets. An older contemporary of Hosea and Isaiah, Amos was active c. 760-755 BCE during the rule of kings Jeroboam II of Israel and Uzziah of Judah. He was from the southern Kingdom of Judah but preached in the northern Kingdom of Israel. Amos wrote at a time of relative peace and prosperity but also of neglect of God's laws. He spoke against an increased disparity between the very wealthy and the very poor. His major themes of justice, God's omnipotence, and divine judgment became staples of prophecy. The Book of Amos is attributed to him.

B. J. Harrison does not tire of the adventurous and mysterious settings in his choice of narratives. This time, the horror element is a bit subdued, though Edgar Allan Poe makes up for the lost thrills with his haunting poems "The Raven", "Annabel Lee", and "The Sleeper". P. G. Wodehouse appears with four works, scoring points for his humor.

The first season focuses on the short story tradition, and B. J. Harrison has selected some of the most prominent representatives of the genre. As far as the thematic aspect is concerned, the stories cover crime and mystery episodes like Arthur Conan Doyle’s "The Speckled Band", or revenge-driven ones like Shakespeare’s "Hamlet". There are also supernatural and horror classics such as Hawthorne’s "The Devil and Tom Walker" and W. W. Jacobs’ masterpiece "The Monkey’s Paw".

A kaleidoscope of genres, themes, topics, and motifs await the listener here. From comedy and mystery, to horror and children’s stories, Season Four abounds in fairy tales adventures, challenges to the listener’s imagination, and joyrides through the unknown realms of the psyche. One of the most famous short stories in horror fiction, "The Call of Cthulhu" sits next to the funny characters of "Right Ho, Jeeves" by Wodehouse, while the eponymous sleepyhead from "Rip Van Winkle" is very much awake, facing H. G. Wells’ "The Door in the Wall".

Apart from the ubiquitous presence of the authors who work in the short story tradition, the Second Season introduces poems and novellas. The romantic poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge is here with his haunting and supernatural sea adventure "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner", while Rudyard Kipling tests the human condition with his famous poem "If". Perhaps the most potent addition in this second part is Joseph Conrad’s timeless novella "The Heart of Darkness", exploring the darkest recesses of the human soul. B. J.

Season Three comes with serious firepower. The genre of adventure, science fiction, fantasy, horror, romance, melodrama, and the psychological are all present, turning the collection into a kaleidoscope of characters, plot twists, emotions, and revelations. Magicians hurl lightnings at each other, talking rabbits and vanishing cats talk to a little girl, while mad scientists try to create life from dead body parts. One of the most prominent names in this season is the American master of horror H. P.

In 1776, the United States of America was born from a document that declared all men created equal and free to choose who they serve in this world. What followed was a difficult fight against a monarchy, a fight that ended with the creation of a powerful country built on the tenets of freedom and equality. These documents are some of the foundational writings from the earliest days of the country that have shaped the United States government for centuries.

Det, der i starten af denne sag så ud som et færdselsuheld, viste sig at være en kompliceret drabssag, hvor gerningsmanden efter en omfattende og grundig politiefterforskning blev idømt 10 års fængsel for overlagt drab.

Mange forbrydelser kommer først efter lang tids forløb for dagens lys. Dette gælder blandt andet bedragerier, hvor der kan gå år, inden revisionen kommer til klarhed over stedfundne uregelmæssigheder. Mange tyverier erkendes ligeledes ofte efter længere tids forløb, og hvor der er tale om drab, og gerningsmanden har skjult sit offer, kan det ske, at dette aldrig findes eller først efter lang, lang tid – og ofte kun ved en tilfældighed, findes.

Beretning om hvordan opklaring af mordet på en 15-årig skolepige i Randers, der af en tilsyneladende sindssyg person var blevet tildelt 33 dødbringende knivstik, førte til opklaring af et af de mest bestialske mord i Danmark, nemlig mordet på en kun 8-årig pige i København, der godt og vel 4 år før blev fundet liggende døende med halsen skåret over.

Den 17. september 1976 omkring kl. 20.30 blev der på posthuset i Haderslev stjålet en værdipostsæk, som indeholdt ca. 530.000 kroner kontant og rejsechecks med et pålydende i forskellig udenlandsk valuta svarende til en værdi af ca. 604.000 danske kroner.

Denne beretning er ikke bemærkelsesværdig på grund af sagens art – et ældre menneske blev brutalt myrdet – heller ikke fordi efterforskningsholdet stødte på særlige vanskeligheder under opklaringsarbejdet – gerningsmanden var udfundet og havde tilstået sin forbrydelse mindre end 1 uge efter, at den var begået – men fordi gerningsmanden senere skulle vise sig at være en af de hidtil yngste personer, som havde slået et andet menneske ihjel, ved en handling, som var planlagt.

Den 19. september 1975 kl. ca. 05.10 blev der påsat en brand i et af pakhusene i Københavns Frihavn. Det blev begyndelsen til vel nok den første sag i Skandinavien, hvor hyrede amerikanske gangstere skulle brænde et vareparti af for at få udbetalt forsikringen. Forsikringsspørgsmålet lå i Sverige, da det skadelidte firma var svensk og derfor havde tegnet forsikring i et svensk forsikringsselskab.

Et røveri på en servicestation på Skanderborgvej i Viby ved Århus, forøvet en mørk og blæsende januaraften i 1979, bevirkede at en 18-årig pige fik ansigtet vansiret for livstid. Sagens opklaring medførte temmelig usædvanlige forviklinger, hvilket viser, hvor fantastisk grundigt en efterforskning skal gennemføres, før en sag og dens aspekter kan anses for fuldstændigt belyst.

Gerningsmanden havde fået idéen til det drab, der skal behandles i det efterfølgende, fra to af hinanden uafhængige TV-udsendelser kort tid forinden, dels "Kriminalkommissæren" den 3/1 og dels et Leif Panduro spil den 5/1, hvor i begge tilfælde offeret blev ombragt ved elektricitet, uden at dette bagefter kunne ses på liget.
