Young Ryan Jordan is exploring an old abandoned mining town with his father and sister on horseback. The empty wooden shacks, an old church, a cold wind rustling the sagebrush give the kids the creeps. On top of that, Ryan teases his sister about ghosts while holding in his own fear. After they ride through the Boot Hill graveyard, with its forgotten graves, they settle in to their camper for the evening where Ryan must come to grips with his fear.

Taking a stab at freelance journalism, Ryan Jordan tackles the legend of La Llorona, a ghostly woman from colonial days who drowned her children near San Juan Capistrano Mission. At the old Spanish mission, he sees documentation in dusty manuscripts that seems to support the legend. He also encounters skepticism. Pressing further, he interviews the city historian who directs him to the residents of the old town alongside the creek near the mission. The local people have their stories of the cursed woman.
