During his stay in the United States at the time of the Ronald Reagan administration, Osho continues his public talks after a more than three-year period of silence. Every child is born ecstatic - with a high level of happiness. Ecstasy is natural. It is something that everybody brings naturally into the world; everybody comes with it. It is part of being alive. Life is ecstasy. Every child brings it into the world, but then society jumps on the child, starts destroying every possibility of ecstasy, starts making the child miserable, starts conditioning the child, and the child comes to know that to be miserable is right, to be happy is wrong. That becomes the deep association.

Political revolutions have never resulted in the changes they promised. What is love? Everyone will have a different notion of what love is. In this talk Osho says that love has become the rarest of rare and speaks of learning how to grow love, how to create a climate of love, of gratitude and thankfulness. Learn how to grow love, to overflow with love, to give love rather than living in need masquerading as love. Instead, prepare the ground for love as a natural functioning.

Every child has been conditioned not to love himself but to love others. That is impossible. Only a very deeply selfish person can be unselfish. Being self-centered is basic. A self-centered person seeks to maximize his happiness. The happier you become, the more you will seek to share that happiness with others. That is the only way to be happy.

In Zen, Zest, Zip, Zap and Zing, Osho responds to questions on love, freedom, morality, women’s role in society, nostalgia, a child’s right to privacy, the purpose of life, and more. Again and again he nudges the listener back to the essential: Zen – awareness, being here and now. While responding to the concerns of the questioners, Osho also illustrates how nonessential their preoccupations are.

Today, humanity is caught up in the mad complexity of the mind and there is an urgent need to rediscover simplicity and innocence. Mahaavir guru nahi hain. Mahavir kalyanmitr hain. Ve kehte hain, main kuch kehta hoon, use samajh lo; mere sahare lene ki zaroorat nahi hai. Meri sharan aane se tum mukt na ho jaaoge. Meri sharan aane se to naya bandhan nirmit hoga, kyunki do bane rahenge. Bhakt aur bhagwaan bana rahega. Shishya aur guru bana rahega. Nahi, do ko to mitaana hai.

Osho always expresses unusual insights to education and the upbringing of children. In this talk, responding a question, he explores the relationship between children and parents. He says, meditation and consciousness give opportunities to change the direction of these relationships and therefore the whole of humanity. Parents respecting their children, rather than seeing them as property, is a key point.

Man has come of age, and does not need old, superstitious religions which are not relevant to contemporary people anymore. Yet, religious establishments try everything to revive and keep these religions alive on artificial life support—we see fundamentalist movements reborn all over the world. People do realize that religion is an empty box. Today's times need a more scientific approach for exploring our inner beings. That will be possible only if we get rid of our old habits.
