Aeon 14: Origins of Destiny

Tanis Richards, commander of the TSS Kirby Jones and her crew are at the tail end of a long patrol on the fringes of the Terran Hegemony when they come across a freighter suspected of smuggling goods out of InnerSol. The Norse Wind looks like just another dumpy cargo ship hauling goods across the Sol System, but someone up the chain thinks the vessel is worth looking into. Tanis and her boarding team gear up for another routine inspection that turns into anything but as the two crews struggle for supremacy out in the cold dark between worlds.

Commander Tanis Richards has finally come into port after a seven month tour on the edge of Jovian space, and she's looking forward to some much deserved shore leave. But Tanis's commanding officer has other things in mind for her. Enfield Technologies has developed a new technique to pair enhanced L2 humans with AIs, and the military wants Tanis to undergo the procedure. Though she feared the worst, after meeting Darla, Tanis realizes that having an AI - especially a fabulously wealthy one - is better than she'd ever imagined. Darla foots the bill for Tanis to enjoy her convalescence.

Someone just killed Tanis Richards and replaced her with an Infiltrator Chameleon. While finally getting some much-needed shore leave on Mars, Tanis gets a message from Harm Ellis with instructions to go to Ceres and hunt for a missing operative...except she never makes it. At least, that's what she'd like her would-be killers to think. With Darla's help, Tanis goes deep undercover, tracking the Infiltrator Chameleon from world to world, only to discover that it intends to kill a head of state in her name.

It's been six months since the events on Europa. During that time, Tanis and the crew of the Kirby Jones have been working to uncover who was behind her betrayal and the oligarch's near assassination. When a routine intel handoff with the Jovians takes a turn for the worse, Tanis finds herself deeper in the spy game than she ever wanted to be. Now, on a short timetable to get to Earth, Tanis is forced to make a stop at Saturn. When she arrives, she finds things to going just like they always are. Crazy.

Tanis Richards has had enough with people manipulating her; unfortunately, the only way out is to go through. Her mission takes her to Earth to abduct a high-ranking Scattered Disk officer on the orders of the Jovian Oligarch. Meanwhile, Harm must do the unthinkable to escape his captor and come to Tanis' aid. Tanis doesn't know it yet, but if she doesn't succeed, her failure will spark the third Solar War....
