It's been a while since Sadie Fuller has lived a normal life. Her obsessive compulsions make even daily life a constant struggle. Living in New Los Angeles doesn't help either. A haven for Descendants, gods and goddesses that suddenly woke up in mortal bodies, the city is ripe with the mysterious and macabre. But now Sadie is witness to a Descendant murder and thrown into an investigation that will test her in ways she could never have imagined. Soon, she herself becomes the hunted. Who is serially killing the Descendants and why do they want to kill her?

In the midst of an investigation into a spree of child murders, Private Investigator, Hank Dolan takes on a missing person's case that tests his limits. Hired by a Descendant, a goddess that woke up in a mortal body along with all the other gods and goddesses two years before, Hank is thrust into the mysterious and grisly. Meanwhile, the 'hybrid', Sadie Fuller, strives to stay hidden, from both the authorities and evil Descendant Set who hunts for her in the city.

Hank Dolan is in over his head. A private investigator, he has been searching for the evil descendant child-killer Lamia for over a year. The descendant goddess, who walks the earth with all the other graceless deities has proved to be both elusive and brutal. With the help of Sadie Fuller and the Greek goddess Hecate, he will not only have to find Lamia, but figure out a way to stop her otherworldly reign of terror. Meanwhile, the city is changing. Auroras have appeared in the night sky. Earthquakes and serial bombings have thrust New Los Angeles into turmoil.
