Most everything I've written deals with an event that knocks the wheels off the world, such as an EMP. I wrote the first Valley book about an economic collapse, and I know less about that subject than an EMP (which ain't a lot). But after the first one, I realized that while the world might be burning down in the cities, that didn't mean that all of civilization came to a grinding halt.
