I am Ethan Solace, an author, interdisciplinary psychologist, dad, former soldier, and lifelong storyteller. I love writing. I absolutely love it. For as long as I can remember, I have carried stories around inside my head. As a child, I filled notebooks with strange worlds, brave children, impossible questions, science fiction ideas, folklore, fantasy, adventures, and odd little stories that probably made perfect sense to me at the time. For more than thirty years, those stories kept growing. Then, after finding a way to write as a dyslexic author, something changed. The door opened. The stories I had been carrying for most of my life finally had a way out. That is why I have written and published so many books. I have been publishing for several years, but I have been writing for more than thirty. Many of my books began as childhood ideas, old notebooks, half-formed worlds, and long-held questions that I have been able to return to as an adult, reshape with experience, and finally share with readers. I write across genres because I have never been a one-dimensional person. As a child, I loved science fiction, fantasy, folklore, storybooks, mythology, and the feeling that a book could open a door into somewhere impossible. As an adult, I became an interdisciplinary psychologist, a dad, and a specialist in SEND, education, child development, trauma, and therapeutic intervention. I have also been a soldier injured during active military service, and I have worked across policing, social services, education, and specialist support settings. That mixture shapes everything I write. Some of my books explore serious subjects: adverse childhood experiences, trauma, EHCPs, psychology, child development, SEND, philosophy, quantum physics, the universe, death, justice, war, knowledge, civilisation, and the big questions children and adults ask when they are trying to make sense of life. Other books are wonderfully strange, funny, folkloric, adventurous, or ridiculous in exactly the way stories should be. I have written about ancient legends, dragons, stars, aliens, forgotten worlds, magical belonging, goats, odd villages, spoon fences, mischievous creatures, brave children, and impossible journeys. No one can say I have not got range. But underneath the variety, the heart of my writing is always the same. I write to help people wonder. I write to help children ask questions safely. I write to make difficult ideas feel less frightening. I write because stories can make us feel less alone. The Big Questions series is written for curious children, families, teachers, and readers who want to explore the world with warmth, clarity, and imagination. These books are not about giving children fixed answers to memorise. They are about helping them think, question, imagine, and understand. My therapeutic and emotional storybooks explore courage, loneliness, friendship, difference, belonging, hope, and the quiet bravery of being yourself. My science fiction and fantasy stories allow me to return to the worlds I loved as a child: stars, myths, strange creatures, lost histories, and impossible choices. One of the greatest joys of my life is seeing my books travel further than I ever imagined. Readers have found them across the UK, Europe, Asia, Australia, and the United States. I still find it surreal and deeply moving when I see children using The Big Questions books for classroom projects, or when someone sends a picture of one of my books being read somewhere in the world. The first time I saw one of my books in an airport bookshop, I had one of those quiet moments where childhood me and adult me seemed to meet in the same place. So thank you. Thank you to every reader, parent, teacher, child, reviewer, listener, and curious human being who has turned up for my books. I will keep writing them. Expect the thoughtful, the strange, the serious, the funny, the emotional, the weird, and the wonderful. Ethan Solace
