Janice Garden Macdonald is the author and illustrator of nine children’s books, including The Red Sweater, a story loved by parents, teachers, and young readers. She also writes mystery fiction under the pen name J.G. Macdonald, creator of the Jane Dougherty mystery series set along the strange and dusty towns of Route 66. Her mysteries blend nostalgia, humor, danger, and the occasional glowing beverage. A former library representative and award-winning short story writer, Macdonald received the Zoetrope: All-Story Short Fiction Prize, judged by Joyce Carol Oates, for her story The Plainness of My Fall. Her work is known for its wry humor and eccentric characters. Her debut mystery novel, Atomic Sunset, was named a Winner of the 2025 Literary Global Book Awards (Humor), a Finalist for the 2025 American Writing Awards (Satire), and a Winner of the 2026 Indie Book Award (Humor). The second novel in the series, Two Hours to Bedlam, continues Jane Dougherty’s adventures through the odd corners of Route 66 — where the towns are dusty, the drinks are Fizzy, and the truth is never quite what it seems. .
