Kathy Baldock is an independent historian, author, and founder of Canyonwalker Press and Canyonwalker Connections, based in Reno, Nevada. She is a leading voice on the historical roots of anti-LGBTQ theology in the American church, bringing a researcher's discipline and a bridge-builder's instinct to one of the most contested intersections of faith and sexuality in modern Christianity. Her most recent work, Forging a Sacred Weapon: The 1946 Bible Mistranslation Behind Anti-Gay Theology, co-researched with Hebrew and Greek scholar Ed Oxford, traces how the word "homosexuals" entered the English Bible for the first time in the 1946 Revised Standard Version — and how that single translation decision reshaped the church's relationship with LGBTQ people for generations. The research is also featured in the documentary 1946: The Mistranslation That Shifted Culture. A companion biography, I Wish to Express, tells the story of Reverend David Fearon, a young seminarian who challenged the translation directly in a 1959 letter to RSV chairman Luther Weigle — a letter discovered by Baldock and Oxford in the Yale University archives. Baldock founded Canyonwalker Connections in 2009, growing from an unexpected friendship formed in 2001 that redirected her from a career in engineering and entrepreneurship toward a ministry of reconciliation between the socially conservative Christian community and LGBTQ people. Her earlier book, Walking the Bridgeless Canyon, remains a foundational resource in that conversation. She speaks at churches, university campuses, seminaries, and conferences across the country and internationally. More information is available on her Canyonwalker Connections site.
