At AUSA, Smith builds coalitions across all components of the Army, AUSA’s 122 chapters, industry, and academia—strengthening trust and advocacy for Soldiers, Army Civilians, and the defense industrial base. He is a co-author of the forthcoming book, All the Difference: Six Leadership Actions to Bridge Perspectives, Strengthen Teams, and Create Value (Summer 2026). He currently serves as a board director for USD Group LLC, Boys & Girls Clubs of America, and the Armed Services YMCA, and he consults with private-sector organizations on strategy, leadership, and development through LV Smith Corporate Group, LLC. LTG Smith holds a Master of Science in Administration from Central Michigan University and a Master of Arts in National Security Strategy from the National Defense University. He is married to Vanedra, and they have two adult daughters—one the CEO of Tay Smith Studio, an advertising and branding firm, and the other an Army OB/GYN resident.
