Michael Smorenburg (b. 1964) is a Cape Town–based entrepreneur, author, and strategist working at the intersection of artificial intelligence, blockchain, and macroeconomics. He began his career in marketing and moved to California in the mid-1990s, building a consultancy and digital media engine during the early internet boom. Returning to South Africa, he went on to found and scale a security business before exiting to focus full-time on writing, research, and emerging technologies. Michael’s work spans both fiction and non-fiction, driven by a consistent theme: understanding how systems evolve, break, and rebuild. His areas of focus include Bitcoin and monetary history, AI and its exponential impact on business, and the broader forces shaping the future of civilization.
