Dee Charles Knight is the author of A Realistic Path to Peace: From Genocide to Global War… And How We Can Change It, updated in 2025 with a new foreword for the Trump era and a new preface to the Chinese edition. It addresses the spread of war from Ukraine and Russia to Israel and Palestine to West and East Asia. It argues for a realistic people-centered alternative. Knight is also author of Befriending China: People-to-People Peacemaking, Gold Winner of the 2025 Nonfiction Book Award and a memoir, My Whirlwind Lives. Knight holds a Master's Degree in Public Administration from New York University and a Bachelor's Degree in English from York University. His writing has appeared in LA Progressive, CounterPunch, Covert Action Magazine, Workers World, Hollywood Progressive, and Veterans For Peace News. Knight's activism spans six decades of anti-imperialist organizing. During the Vietnam era he edited Amex-Canada, the newsletter of American exiles and expatriates who went to Canada in resistance to that war. He lived in Toronto from 1968 to 1974. In 1973 he helped launch the National Council for Universal Unconditional Amnesty, campaigning to end government repression of war resisters and active-duty U.S. soldiers. In 1975 he witnessed the Carnation Revolution in Portugal and co-founded the American Portuguese Overseas Information Organization. In the 1980s he served as a technical consultant to the Sandinista newspaper Barricada in Nicaragua, and in the 1990s as a publishing consultant for the UN Development Programme in New York. During the Iraq war buildup in the early 2000s, Knight helped organize some of the largest protest actions in U.S. history. He serves on the Advisory Council of Friends of Socialist China and the China Working Group of DSA's International Committee. He was born in Idaho, grew up in Oregon and received the Oregon Peace Educators award in 1969.
