My seventh book, THE NECTAR COLLECTOR, published by 12 Willows Press, Maine, features Alenya, a forager bee, and her best friend, a drone. Far from their hive, the pair face one danger after another. To get home they must demonstrate courage, cunning, and cooperation--traits that colony life has instilled in them. I wrote THE NECTAR COLLECTOR to help kids learn about bees and their amazing abilities and importance. We depend on them to pollinate our crops and give us beautiful flowering plants. If kids learn to love bees they will want to save them. My website has a free teacher's curriculum guide. I live in a beautiful area of the Rocky Mountains where wild rivers and wildlife abound. Hiking is beautiful. I used to live on a sheep farm where we raised horses, dogs, cats, goats, and occasionally pigs, too. These days, I keep bees. Bees are in crisis throughout the world. Loss of habitat, harmful chemicals, and lack of variety in their diet has weakened them. Their death rate keeps climbing. . Five of my books have featured animals.
