I’m certainly not normal, that has been confirmed by many people over the years, but I am nothing special. I am a technical consultant of over twenty-five years, married to a lovely woman, father to a fabulous child, have two dogs and live in the countryside. I was late to the love of reading, but now I am hooked. I'm very aware of the world around me, and I take time to consider and understand how technological advancements impact society and ultimately, this is not the vision of a world I want my son to live in. It is likely too late to fix it for my generation’s benefit, but for future generations it is something I believe we have to try and resolve, and the first step is making people aware of the challenge. Advancing technology requires higher-order cognitive skills for us to live, thrive, and survive. The reality is that those skills are in steep decline, and the more we offload to technology, the greater the decline. I am not academic, I am not an established author or some internationally renowned business mogul. I am a typical human being, not perfect, but an average, run of the mill human, and that is incredibly important because it is everyday people like me who are required to help change the course of the future.I believe that as humans it is us who will need to alter the way we live to avoid falling into the trap of a full dystopian world. I believe we are already in the early stages of a dystopia and I don't want my son, or anyone else to live in that world. I want to do what I can to help change course. We all need to step up and do our bit to help and keep those in power, in check.
