Robert B. McCaw is the author of six books. His current novel, Traitors, is an international political thriller scheduled for publication in July 2026 by Norton & Company. Traitors has received advance praise from bestselling authors James Patterson, David McCloskey, Steve Berry, and David Morrell, and most recently earned a starred review from Publishers’ Weekly. Infused with Bob’s experience as a lawyer in Washington and New York working on domestic and international cases, Traitors features an unusual protagonist in Robert Cooper, a deputy assistant attorney general in the Justice Department’s National Security Division. Tipped off on an isolated beach by a potential defector, Cooper must unravel a conspiracy at the highest levels of the US government while an emboldened Russia and its new megalomaniacal ruler seek to sideline America on the international stage. Bob has previously authored five books in the Koa Kāne Hawaiian mysteries series: Death of a Messenger (2016); Off the Grid (July 2019); Fire and Vengeance (July 2020), Treachery Times Two (2022), and Retribution (2023). Against the backdrop of Hawai‘i’s culture and mystique, these novels depict the relentless pursuit of justice in paradise as championed by a tenacious detective on the Big Island of Hawai‘i. Bob’s ability to grasp and articulate the prevailing cultural nuance stems in part from his upbringing in a military family that traveled the world. After graduating from Georgetown University, he served as a lieutenant in the US Army and then earned a law degree from the University of Virginia. Upon graduation from law school, he spent a year as a judicial clerk for Supreme Court Justice Hugo L. Black. Practicing law in Washington, DC, and New York City, Bob represented investment banks, lawyers, directors, and other clients in complex civil and criminal cases, including many that generated significant press coverage. He lives in New York and California with his wife, Calli.
