Thom Brooks is an award-winning American-British author and public intellectual specialising in law, citizenship and the future of public policy. His work has helped shape national debates on citizenship, integration and legal reform in the United Kingdom. He is Professor of Law, Ethics and Government at Durham University, Principal of Collingwood College, Durham and served as Dean of Durham Law School (2016–2021). His research has informed parliamentary scrutiny and contributed to reforms aimed at improving the fairness and accessibility of the UK’s legal system. He is the author of "Becoming British" and "Reforming the UK’s Citizenship Test," widely recognised contributions to debates on national identity and citizenship policy. Brooks is a former President of the Society of Legal Scholars. He has held visiting positions at Harvard, Oxford and Yale. A frequent media commentator, he has made over 2,000 appearances on law, citizenship and public affairs.
