Tim Hemlin spent years in professional kitchens before turning to fiction — experience that gives the Neil Marshall Mysteries their lived-in authenticity. A marathoner and longtime educator in the Houston area, he holds a master's degree in counseling and works as a high school counselor in the Fort Bend Independent School District. His culinary mystery series, originally published by Ballantine and reissued by La Nouvelle Atlantide Press, spans five novels set in 1990s Houston. A Whisper of Rage, Book 2 in the series, received a Shamus Award nomination. Tim grew up in verdant New Hampshire. At the University of New Hampshire, he was an English major with a focus on creative writing with minors in religious studies and political science. While at UNH, he took classes with Charles Simic, Mekeel McBride and Thomas Williams. After graduating he moved to sultry Houston, Texas. Unashamedly a tree-huger, he feels a great responsibility to be a voice for future generations so they too may enjoy the beauty of nature. When he's not writing, he reads anything he can get his hands on, and he's into self-punishment, as evident by twenty-two years of teaching middle school students, running multiple marathons, and now training on the hot Texas trails for his first ultra-marathon.

Tim Hemlin is the author of seven novels. His latest work is Son of a Kitchen Witch, a fast-paced young adult urban fantasy telling the story of the teenage son of a witch and how he navigates the perilous terrain of young love and high school drama, all while being hunted by a pack of hell-hounds. The Wastelanders, is a clifi-dystopian set in a future where a drop of water is more precious than gold. Hemlin has won local and regional awards for his writing and in 2002 was awarded a writing grant from the Mystery Writers Association of America.

He has also published short works of fiction, most prominently in Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine.
