Trevor Hills, LLB (Hons) MSc MinstP, has spent many years involved in managing organisations with both economic and social purposes. Across manufacturing and service firms, local and national government, education and school governance, health services, trading associations, aviation, and printing and publishing, his work has kept him close to the realities of management practice, especially during change. He has also worked in employment tribunal matters, police officer development, and in privatisation and contracting bids and their implementation. He has owned and run a management consultancy and management services business, including periods as a temporary auxiliary member of executive management groups, working alongside executive directors in the early phases of change, acquisitions, and mergers. Trevor has been invited to coach and mentor managers, and he has developed a methodology for management coaching and related self-learning and self-development. His central conviction is simple: managers and management practice matter. Effective managers improve by focusing on the practice of management, with continuous critical reflection and a commitment to doing the job better.
