Yael Schonbrun, PhD, is a clinical psychologist and assistant professor at Brown University, where she studies the science of human relationships, which, it turns out, are considerably more complicated than anyone advertises. She is the author of Work, Parent, Thrive and the forthcoming Why Don't You Understand Me?: The Surprising Science of Connecting in a World of Missed Signals. In her private practice, research, podcasting (Psychologists Off the Clock), and writing, Yael integrates findings from psychology, philosophy, and clinical practice to help people navigate the relationships that matter most: with partners, with children, and with the competing roles that define modern life. A frequent contributor to The Washington Post, her work has also appeared in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Greater Good Science Center, Behavioral Scientist, and Tricycle, among others. She lives in the Boston area with her partner, three sons, and a dog named Nacho who has not read any of her books on relationships but remains a work in progress.
