About this listen

In a world where magic has disappeared, rival nations vie for power in a continent devastated by war.

When a young farm girl named Livia demonstrates magical powers for the first time in a century, there are many across the land that will kill to obtain her power. Duke Gothelm's tallymen, the blood-soaked Qeltine Brotherhood, and cynical mercenary Josten Cade: All are searching for Livia and the power she wields.

But Livia finds that guardians can come from the most unlikely places...and that the old gods are returning to a world they abandoned.

This story was jarring at points. found it hard to see who the bad guys were and then random vivid sex scenes.

this was compared to Sanderson, I think that was a mistake this is nothing like his work. don't think I will be reading more of the serriies.

not the best but not the worst

Kinda slow start, a lot of stories intertwined till it makes sense, but it's worth it. The narrator did a superb job. Comparison with Abercrombie? I don't know, Abercrombie is a master with building characters, which is not the case here. It is gory, too much at the point of describing torturing and killing children. It could go without it, it doesn't do any good for the story value.
Other than that it is a decent plot, interesting twists, as I said - quite good foe a freebie

I nearly returned the book in the first hour of listening as I’d had to restart three times to take in the story. But I’m glad I stuck with it. A combination of three character storylines come together at the end, which I found to be a bit of a let down after the journey of the characters. But there are some really lovely moments and some so sad I nearly cried. I’ll look for more books by the author.

Took a while to get into but worth persevering

It's not a bad book, it's well narrated, but I just don't really care enough to keep going with this series. Not sure what it is, the characters are not sparking a wish to read more and three story is just a little boring. I'm no doubt being harsh as I can't put my finger on specifics.

Just not invested in this series
