Georgina, Princess of Wales, has always known her destiny, but she never expected duty to call so soon. When her father dies suddenly, she is called back from her Royal Navy post to assume the crown. While the people acclaim their new Queen, Great Britain's first openly gay monarch, all George feels is the isolation of her station.

Beatrice Elliot's staunch anti-monarchist views have always been a point of gentle contention with her working class, royalty-loving parents. When Bea, director of a hospice charity, must spend six months working with Queen Georgina, her charity's new patron, sparks fly and passion blooms. But is love enough to bridge the gap between Bethnal Green and Buckingham Palace?

I liked this one a lot, yes the story is farfetched and some of the dialogue is rather flowery by the end but it is a lovely read particularly early on when the queen and the commoner are sparking off each other Loved the ending and the bits of intrigue and political manoeuvring that goes on. Narration is good. I will definitely be reading more of these books.

Fun fairytale romance

Oh dear where do I start, firstly I love a lesbian romance with a happy ending and this was that. However, my personal preference is a couple made up of two equal "types" neither too butch or too femme and I found George awkward, not unlikeable but someone I didn't much care about. I also felt the story had little flow, there was so much filler the word count would have been much less without the unnecessary words, which made it so stilted. Just not my taste, also I wasn't keen on the narrator's performance perhaps good at accents but she read the very limited set scenes as if she was reading instructions for building an IKEA cupboard. Disappointed

Great idea but

I read this book and fell in love with the characters. On a whim, I gave the Audiobook a try and discovered it was a gem thanks to the talented narrator.

Loved the story and the narrator!

The narrator was excellent and brought the characters to life making the story even better. Excellent story and writing.

Excellent job

I will be listening to the rest of this series, as this was book 1, which I did enjoy. I didn’t really know much about royals and I must admit, it did give me a sense of appreciation for what the royals do. The novel had romance and drama, with bits of humour and it was a fairytale love story.

I think the narrator did an excellent job of bringing the characters to life.

The only thing I did not like in this book was, the fireplace sex scene, I did have to skip that part. But apart from that I did enjoy the book.
