About this listen
The only thing worse than murder is…no murder?
It’s Christmastime, and Dashiell Dawson Dane (just Dash) is looking forward to a quiet holiday season—no unexpected visitors, no relationship drama, and absolutely no murders.
But when his friend Millie asks for help, Dash says yes. Because that’s what friends do.
Millie’s brother, he learns, has been accused of stealing packages from his job as a delivery driver. Worse, he’s been fired. So, Millie’s request is simple: clear her brother’s name—and, in the process, save Christmas.
No small task, it turns out, as Dash faces a suspiciously hostile warehouse manager, stumbles onto a family of porch pirates, and somehow gets roped into the Nought Family Nativity Pageant. And when Millie’s brother disappears, Dash fears the worst. In Dash’s (growing) experience, that can only mean one thing…
Because it’s always murder.
Isn’t it?

My favorite part is still all the fourth wall breaking. Dash is constantly pointing out great times to reveal a body which keeps you on the edge of your seat waiting for when he's going to stumble upon something! It keeps me falling for all the red herrings, but I actually feel like part of the team.
Surprise surprise, I absolutely loved this one.

The mystery as ever is top notch (I had no idea 'who did it'). I very much enjoyed seeing how Dash and Bobby's relationship grows, and how Dash grows emotionally.
The narrator really makes the book work for me. He embodies the characters ane it was a real listening pleasure.
Another great cosy mystery.

I have to say, Always Murder was a nice break from the deep drama that was book 8. Whew! I needed me some lighthearted fun after that (Keme was mean!). Always Murder goes back to the fun times that are The Last Picks. Yes, Millie is the same with her annoying cheerfulness and loud voice, but it's clear she is a nice person, a caring person, and sometimes doesn't know how to not help people. Particularly when it's her brother.
As the blurb says, Millie asks Dash to help prove her brother didn't steal from his employer, who had fired him. I enjoyed this one a lot because it felt more light than some, certainly the last book. The doomness of book 8 really could be clouding my judgement, but I don't think so. The connection these characters have, their friendship, and willingness to go to some pretty shady people for help. Like what even was that with this supposed little girl (how old was she?) who ran this crime family and one little crook of her finger could have you gutted with a spoon. Like that is real friendship there to be willing to face people like that. :D
Of course Dash figures out what is going on, chaos follows (naturally) and it all ends well. For now. The next book certainly will open a whole new can of worms. The writing is once again awesome. The narration, perfect. If you've been reading the series you know what to expect and this one does not disappoint. 4.5 for the story; 5 for the narration.
Great Narration and Fun Installment
