About this listen
The next thrilling instalment in the DCI Harry Grimm crime thrillers series.

While I *of course* love all of the Grimm books, in my opinion I found Ashes was fully back to the top tier storytelling that got me hooked in the first place, after I felt a little tiny something was missing (I’m talking 4.7/5 as opposed to 5/5!) with books 16 & 17. I particularly loved how I wasn’t able to guess “whodunnit” and the huge plot twists - I couldn’t have stopped listening even if I’d tried! It’s remarkable how Gatward can do this after 17 previous books! I also adored having more “time spent with” individual members of Harry’s team within the book as they’re all so fab. 👏🏻
Another amazing DCI Grimm book!

the narration was excellent as always, really well paced, clear and with feeling, easy to listen to and also performed in such a way that not only brings the story to life but pulls you in.
I managed to finish this story in just two sittings, I couldn't " put it down" to use a physical book reference, really really good, and just about to start book 19 which is also out and waiting for me in my library.
for J.D.Kirk dvi Logan book series fans ( which I am) there is also an excellent little surprise.
David J Gatwood writes in such an interesting and intelligent way, with humour and a gentle touch when needed but equally not afraid if a fight, his descriptions of Wensleydale make even the windswept rainsiaked days seem magical .
The plot is detailed and keeps you on your toes throughout, and the characters are full and delightful.
Although you don't have to have read the previous books to enjoy this one, it really is a good idea to start at the beginning, to really get the best out of the complex characters that are the main set for this series.
this is book 18, so if you haven't read any before, you have lots to enjoy.
David J Gatwoods DCI Harry Grim crime novels are all excellent, always something new, thrilling, devious, and in some parts hilarious, and with characters you can really get behind.
outstanding story with an interesting twist
