About this listen

A surprise single dad, small town romantic suspense…

I’m the last guy on the planet who should be a dad. My life is chaos. My sins written dark and deep.
So, imagine my surprise when my doorbell rings and I open it to find the most gorgeous woman I’ve ever seen standing on the other side.
And she’s holding the hand of a little girl who looks just like me.

Emery tells me her sister, the child’s mother, is dead.
I feel like dirt since she’s a woman I can hardly remember, and it’s no wonder Emery doesn’t trust that I’m worthy of caring for her niece.
But I can’t turn my back, and I insist on raising Maci.
So, we strike a deal—she’ll stay with me for one month to ensure the little girl is safe.

Emery tries to hate me for who I am, but neither of us can resist the attraction that blazes between us.
One brush of her hand, and she has me on my knees.
One kiss, and I’m falling fast.
Soon, we find ourselves tangled in my sheets.

But when it’s discovered her sister’s death wasn’t accidental, the secret life I’ve been living collides with the past Emery has tried to keep hidden.
And when the fiends come back to finish the job they started, I’m in a race against time to save the two people who I’ve come to love most…

Wow, A.L. Jackson does it again and blows me away with another exceptional novel set in her “Moonlit Ridge” series. As much as I would like to say the series gets better and better, I can not because it would not be fair to the first two books, which were just as amazing. Though I can say I have a new favorite character, or rather another favorite character, Kane Asher, who is part of a brotherhood, a found family, while they may be morally gray characters, everything they do is for the good and the deserving. Hearing Kane’s backstory was heartbreaking, and the man has closed himself off from love, not letting anyone get close to him, other than his found family and a reason he does what he does. And then she comes into town, Emery Voss, and she came for a reason, not knowing she had already met that reason, Kane, which complicated things. Emery brought her niece, Maci, to Moonlit Ridge because it was her late sister’s wishes for her to be raised by her father, Kane, despite her never telling him about her or him never wanting a family. Maci was absolutely adorable, genuine, sweet and innocent, and it would be difficult for anyone to not fall in love with her right away, even one with a fortress built around his heart. Emery tried so hard to do what she thought was the right thing, stay away from Kane, but the chemistry between them was electric and they were drawn to each other like a moth to a flame. Both were dealing with their own inner demons and hid secrets, current and past, but then their pasts come back to haunt their two worlds collide. I loved all the layers of this story, the complex web Jackson weaved and how it all played out, with plenty of drama, angst, thrilling suspense, heartfelt emotions and steamy romance. This story is captivating from start to end, and the writing, plot and world building are incredible, as are the character growth and development. A.L. Jackson, thank you for another outstanding story and emotional rollercoaster ride. On of the best lines in the “You take care of the ones you love most”, moved me like no other. I can not get enough of these amazing characters and am looking forward to my next visit to Moonlit Ridge.

🎧📚🎧 And for the amazing audiobook narration, performed by Jason Clarke and Erin Mallon, a perfect pairing and perfect casting. They were absolutely incredible voicing the characters, humanizing them with their personality for a spot on portrayal of each. Both nailed it in every role, especially the lead roles, as if they stepped into their shoes becoming the character, Clarke as Kane and Mallon, as Emory, convincingly and their kid voices were fabulous, capturing their enthusiasm and innocence. Their pacing and tone were right for the story, as was the way they projected all the characters’ emotions into their performance, making you feel every single one. They are entertaining storytellers, and their performance takes the already exceptional story to another level and keeps you glued to the story.

Emery had come to Moonlit Ridge to honor her sister’s request. The first time she meets Kane is when he comes to her rescue however not only didn’t she know who he was, but she never expected to see him again. The next time she sees him is to introduce him to Maci, the four-year-old daughter he didn’t know about however developing feelings for him while she helps Maci adjust wasn’t part of the plan.

Kane is a man with a dark and dangerous past and present. He has created a family however due to his past he never expected to have a family of his own however when Emery and Maci come into his life he can’t imagine a future without them however his past is about to catch up with him and threaten those he loves most.

Both Emery and Kane have devastating pasts which has shaped them into the people they are. Not only are they captivating characters, but Maci is cuteness personified. I listed to the audio in one day and couldn’t put it down. The performance by Jason Clarke brought out the protective side of Kane while Erin Mallon brings out the strength of Emery.

AT THE EDGE OF SURRENDER is the third book in the Moonlit Ridge series of interconnected stand-alone novels by A.J. Jackson. This book is about Kane, a morally grey protective hero who had dedicated his life to saving others. When Emery arrived in his town, she surprised him with a four year old daughter. Her sister, and Maci’s mother, had died and requested that Emery bring Maci to Kane. Determined to raise his little girl, he convinced Emery to spend a month with him to help Maci adjust to her new environment and confirm that he was worthy of the role. Neither were able to resist the attraction they shared, but both Emery and Kane’s pasts put her in danger. What would Kane do to keep his new family safe? This novel has a single dad, band of brothers, Motorcycle Club, hate to love, touch her and die, found family, and a secret society packed into a small town contemporary romance. I really enjoyed the narration in this dual POV audiobook, narrated by Jason Clarke and Erin Mallon, who were a joy to listen to. I enjoyed the strong bond between Kane and his friends. The gradual addition of women and children to this found family was heartwarming. I am a sucker for a romantic suspense novel and truly enjoyed listening to this one. Maci stole the show from the very beginning and it is no wonder that everyone who met her immediately fell in love. I loved the transformation from lone wolf to family man which Kane undergoes, and I loved Emery for him and vice versa. I definitely recommend this audiobook for fans of romantic suspense who enjoy the tropes I mentioned. If you would prefer to read this book, the ebook is in the kindleunlimited program.

Well AL Jackson, you have my attention. This small town romance is packed with everything I love. Emery comes to town, bringing her niece to meet her father for the first time. The death of Emily has left her with this task, but leaving Maci with a stranger. Little does she know, he is the one she met the night before. Kane is the one of the group that is the loner. He has his own agenda that he keeps secret, and does not plan on settling down. But this woman has thrown him off kilter. And the surprise that he is a dad has brought his whole world into focus. But once he finds out the circumstances of Emily's death and the danger that has followed Emily, will he be able to keep her and his daughter safe? Oh my, this story. I dove in, and couldn't stop listening. Between seeing the others I have come to know and love and the addition of Maci with her adorableness, especially with Nolan, I was all in. This one has a lot of suspense which had me all in and the results has me wanting to keep coming back to this town. Can't wait for more!

Erin Mallon and Jason Clarke. That is all I have to say and you know exactly why this listen was just so good. Enhancing Jackson's writing, these two build the characters, bring all the feels and suspense and keep the story flowing at a pace that kept me engaged. Loved every minute!

A fast favorite!
