A MISSING DETECTIVE

DCI Matilda Darke has been kidnapped and her nemesis, Steve Harrison appears to be behind it. He’s currently residing in the supermax of Wakefield Prison and spends twenty-three hours a day in his cell, so how could he possibly be responsible?

A SERIAL KILLER WITH A VENGEANCE

As Matilda’s team race to find her, they’re alerted to a body found in an abandoned car on the outskirts of Sheffield. With forensics scouring the woodland for clues, the last thing they expect is for the body count to rise.

A RACE AGAINST TIME

Meanwhile the search intensifies for the DCI when a video of her kidnapping is leaked to the media. And as she desperately tries to uncover what has led to her being held captive in an underground cell, she’s about to find out how much danger she’s truly in.

If Matilda’s team don’t find her soon, they might not find her at all…

Living in Sheffield I love hearing all the references to the city, however, am very glad the story is fictional! This series certainly stretches the imagination having so many serial killers in the city, and the idea that anyone would work for the police, is crazy! If they've not been killed, harmed, had a relative/friend or partner killed or harmed in some way; then they are probably the killer or related or married to the killer! I fear the author is edging towards us no longer being able to suspend our disbelief any more. That said, I still enjoyed the story a lot and do look forward to the next in the series.

I enjoyed the series but getting a bit weary of the police team always being the target. Would like it to be mixed up a bit not sure if I’ll continue with the whole series.

Phew! This book started with a shocking event at Matilds Darke's house, and Michael Wood kept up the tension all the way through to the thrilling climax.

Like all the others in this addictive series, this book takes the listener on a rollercoaster ride. I always know when I listen to one of this author's books that absolutely anyone can come to a sticky end. He's not afraid to kill off popular characters, so I end up chewing my fingernails whilst listening! All the usual characters are there, including the evil serial killer Steve Harrison.

This is a must read/listen to series, and if you haven't already then you're really missing out.

Excellent narration, as always, by Stephanie Beattie.

My nerves are ripped to shreds!!
