These words are blurted over the phone to Constable Snowy Lane, who is preoccupied with no more than a ham sandwich and getting a game with the East Fremantle league side on Saturday. They signal the beginning of a series of events that are to shake Perth to its foundations.

A good story well read - could have benefitted from better editing, the similes were coming a mile a minute and at times ruined my enjoyment

OK if you like that sort of thing. Quite a fast narration of what could be a good detective story. I don’t know, because I lost interest at the first sex scene.

So, you need to pay attention in between the colloquial analogies. You can imagine this story being told over a beer in a seedy bar and a bit Sam Spade in places. So many characters, suspects and twists so pay attention. But a good ending that wrapped up all the loose ends.

As a fan of all things WA I was pleased to discover the Dave Warner books, Ric Herbert did a good job as a narrator and I enjoyed this book greatly,
Pleased to discover there was a second book.

Came to this after enjoying a number of Garry Disher crime novels.
I enjoyed the portrait of WA and the intermingling of footy, police and politics. The plot was multi faceted and well pulled together at the end.
Didn’t give 5 star rating as felt overly long, few too many similes and at times a little sexist - I guess a product of when it was written or was that just a reflection of WA?
I will def be reading some more of Dave Warners books and seeing how his style and approach evolves.
