Generally, JG Lewis’ stories are simple and light. Good for quick and easy listen. This one, however, was like a mediocre episode of Robin Hood. Too many loose ends. Too many superfluous characters. Very predictable. Calling the outlaw The Fox should have been the tip off that this was going to be pedestrian.
Ela seems to waiver between being a typical noble with the rights and privileges to hold sway over the lives of serfs or being sympathetic to their plight and deferential to the outlaw. I wish the outlaw had been more like the real medieval outlaws such as the Folville Gang - inflicting mayhem and pain on the people, than of the sanitized Robin Hood character that is created here. In the former case Ela could have been seen to exact justice upon him as well as finding the murderer. I was disappointed in this one.
