He’s the son of serial killers. Now he's falling for the man who profiles them.

This was never supposed to become an obsession.

Aaron Jones has survived by hiding behind walls of control and calculated indifference. He’s had to. As the son of two infamous serial killers, people either fear him, pity him, or crave to peel him open just to see what’s underneath. The last thing he needs is anyone digging into his past. Especially not a man who makes him want to surrender every defence.

Dr Kenneth Lyons. Criminal psychologist. Brilliant. Respected. Off-limits. And the one man Aaron can’t seem to resist.

Kenny has always been drawn to the shadows of the human mind, but nothing is darker, or more tempting, than the new haunted student in his lecture hall.

Aaron is beautiful, complicated, and utterly forbidden. Every rule says he should walk away. Every glance, every brush of contact, makes that impossible. Desire twists into obsession. Boundaries shatter. Every kiss is dangerous. Every touch is a confession. And every moment brings them closer to ruin.

But when a new killer surfaces on campus, mimicking the crimes of Aaron’s parents, their intoxicating entanglement turns deadly. Someone wants to resurrect the past. Someone wants to expose the truth. And if Kenny isn’t careful, giving into Aaron could cost him everything.

Dream a Little Dream (To Love a Psycho, Book 1) launches the dark MM To Love a Psycho romantic thriller series where Aaron and Kenny’s story begins, and never truly ends. Their bond of forbidden desire and dangerous obsession threads through every murder, every secret, and every temptation. For listeners who crave their romance steeped in danger, tangled with lies, and bound by a love that should never happen… yet refuses to let go.

I enjoyed the story and Aaron's personal growth and increased self-understanding. There is a bit of redemption in his actions at the end, too. However, I was a bit disappointed by the ending. Too much was left open and unresolved. This is the first book in a series, but unless the future books follow the same characters, I likely won't read more. As a warning to other potential listeners, this is a dark story about the son of two serial killers, so there is the expected trauma, drama, and murders. However, it isn't overly graphic or descriptive of the killings. I was rooting for Aaron all the way. For his circumstances, and the abuse he receive in the 'care' system, he was remarkably well-adjusted, and just wanted to understand the why of what happened. Although he did have some darker tendencies, those might have happened to anyone with the upbringing he had in the system. I liked the role he played at the end. [POTENTIAL SPOILER] Although things turn out okay for Aaron, there is no HEA or HFN for he and Kenny. There is no 'Love is Love' resolution to their story, and I feel less favorably towards Kenny. He knew he shouldn't be doing what he was doing, but in the end just cuts Aaron adrift with the lame excuse that it's for his own benefit (and Kenny's career!) I suppose it's realistic, and hopefully Aaron can move on, but as a fan of HEA/HFN and story resolution, I wasn't satisfied. I would still recommend the story if you like drama and suspense, and character growth and self-realization, as long as you don't mind that it has no HEA/HFN and the ending is left a bit open.

The narration was very good, and really set the stage for the darker and more suspenseful parts, while also capturing Aaron's snark and attitude.

I received an audio ARC and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.

It is great to see another side of C.F. White’s creative mind, a dark and thrilling romantic suspense with a murder mystery, past secrets and a forbidden attraction. The song “Dream a Little Dream” will never be the same for me again, and I will always think of Aaron Jones, the son of two monsters. After the arrest of both parents, Aaron lived in foster homes, no longer went by his name given at birth, and now as an adult he is attending university. Did Aaron turn into a well-rounded adult, and did the therapy sessions he was required to attend help him? Time will tell, and you will have to be the judge of that, I have my conclusion and so does Dr. Kenneth Lyons, a criminal psychologist, a professor at the university Aaron is attending and someone who has more than one connection to the serial killer’s case. Both these characters have brilliant minds, and White was clever in the way she brings them together and into each other’s orbit. There is great chemistry between them, smoking hot and tense chemistry, despite the age gap and the forbidden factor for several reasons including the student/teacher factor. This cleverly plotted multi-layered story has non-stop drama, angst, twists and turns, mystery, thrilling and psychological suspense, heartfelt emotions and steamy romance. Aaron and Kenny’s story does not end here, and I am looking forward to what to see what where the future takes them next. C.F. White, thank you for this terrific story and wild and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧 Piers Ryman’s fantastic storytelling and performance take this romantic thriller to another level, keeping you entranced and needing to know what happens next. Setting the ideal tone for the story, he captured and conveyed all the characters’ emotions and had you feeling them all. Piers Ryman is a versatile voice artist, and his talent truly shines in his performance.

Reread as audiobook. Excellent narration.
Story - 4.5 stars. I'm really happy that this is the start of a planned trilogy, as the characters definitely need the time to show all their complications. It's definitely not the standard "psycho" type of story, which I really appreciated. Aaron has never had any chance at a normal life - will Kenny be able to help him without losing himself? There wasn't a real cliffhanger as such, but there are a lot of things left hanging. I have a burning need to find out what will happen next.

Wow, a totally new genre for CF White, and a great start to a series.

I love the intrigue and how she writes; you feel immersed in the characters and story. This is true of each of her books. Her characters always have complex backgrounds that pull you in and make you feel that you know these people and have a connection with them.

Brilliant writing, heart-stopping and sad in parts, some parts I wanted to yell at the screen, but that tell you, you have a remarkable book. I recommend you read this book and I'm hoping the rest of the series is on par, excellent story telling.

The narration by Piers Ryman was on point as usual. His skill at changing characters voices is remarkable. I did speed up the audio to 1.2 on Audible which isy usual.

Since I love crime and mystery novels, I was really looking forward to reading this book. Just a quick note: this is the first volume of a trilogy. The writing style was very pleasant and the story is a great read.
But at first, it actually took a while for the story to captivate me. This was probably because the author created the two protagonists, Aaron and Kenny, in such depth that it takes a while to get to know them well. Not much happens at the beginning. Kenneth Lyons is a professor and a brilliant criminal psychologist. Aaron is the boy who was placed in foster care after his parents were convicted of being serial killers by Kenny. I found the constellation quite interesting, and after about a third of the way through, I was completely captivated by the story.
Aaron had to go through so much just because of his parents—it broke my heart. Because he not only experienced rejection in the foster care system, but also from Kenny. I wanted to take him in my arms and tell him that everything would be okay.
The professor, on the other hand, is fighting his own battle between desire and attraction to Aaron and ethics. I wasn't always thrilled with the decisions he made, but I could understand his reasons. ,
The professor, on the other hand, struggles with his own battle between desire and attraction to Aaron and ethics. I wasn't always thrilled with the decisions he made, but I could understand his reasons.
Once the story picked up speed, it was exciting, but at the same time dark and gloomy, and unfortunately the ending came much too quickly. I'm waiting for the second volume and I'm not giving up hope that there will be a happy ending for Aaron and Kenny – because the chemistry between the two is definitely palpable!

The audiobook was narrated by Piers Ryman, and he did a brilliant job! He read in a very varied way, and I was able to empathize with Kenny and Aaron very well because Piers Ryman brought them to life and conveyed their emotions superbly

Great start to the series!
